Homeownership Education Counseling Program

The Louisiana Housing Corporation understands the value of homeownership in our communities, and also the costs and obligations that come with it. That is why it is part of our mission to prepare potential homeowners as they make this investment so they can make the most of it. Our Homeownership Education Counseling Program can help you understand the rights, privileges and responsibilities of homeownership. LHC's approved grantees present a series of workshops to help you:

Prepare Yourself

Before you start picking out paint colors and measuring for drapes, you need to prepare yourself.

  • Do you have a household budget?
  • Have you begun saving for a down payment and other expenses?
  • What does your credit look like?
  • Are you a responsible renter?

Our counselors will help you assess your situation and plan the necessary steps to make sure you are ready.

Partners in Homebuying

You are not traveling this road alone. There are many partners to help you along the path of finding and buying your first home. From working with real estate agents to finding a loan that works best for you, we will help you understand who's there to help and the role they play.

Closing the Deal

You've found your dream home and you've secured financing, are you ready to close the deal? Learn how the process works and how appraisals, inspections, titles and insurance all factor in. Be prepared when it's time to sign on the dotted line and pick up your keys!

What's Next?

What's in store for a new homeowner? With a new home comes new responsibilities like maintenance, upkeep and taxes. Don't let hidden costs and obligations catch you by surprise. Our program is designed to make you a great homeOWNER, not just a homeBUYER.
